Gov. Newsom vetoes eviction-delay legislation
The California Apartment Association has defeated legislation that would have provided free legal representation to tenants who face eviction and claim they can’t pay the rent.
In a CAA-led grassroots campaign this summer, thousands of rental housing providers urged lawmakers to reject the proposal, AB 1487 by Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel, D-Van Nuys. Although the bill ultimately won legislative approval, Newsom refused to sign it.
